Becoming a Consultus Live-in Carer
Every week Consultus has hundreds of
carers on assignment. Like them, you can earn good money
and enjoying rewarding, stimulating work. You will take
assignments only when you want them and stay only with
the clients you are willing and able to accept. You
will travel the country learning new skills and meeting
interesting new people. Our large client-base means
you will possibly have more choice and opportunities
to work than with any other UK live-in care agency.

Live-in work gives you the chance to really make a difference
to the quality of a person’s life. Our clients
are mostly elderly and frail ladies and gentlemen who
need varying degrees of help with their personal care,
such as dressing, washing and bathing, and with tasks
such as housekeeping, cooking and shopping.
As a live-in carer you will be residing in your client’s
home, typically for two-week periods. At the end of
your assignment you can take as much time off as you
like before moving on to a new client.
We will match you to clients based on your experience,
work preferences and mutual personalities so you will
get the utmost flexibility and enjoyment from your work
and never feel the job is beyond your capabilities.
You should be the kind of person who gets a personal
sense of satisfaction from helping others, someone who
is dependable, good humoured and helpful.
Our carers come from a wide range
of backgrounds; we welcome carers from overseas who
have excellent English and who have secured the right
to work in the UK. Our minimum age is 21. There is
a wider choice of assignments for carers with a driving
licence valid in the U.K. as clients often ask for
someone who can drive their cars. There is very limited
work for male carers and Consultus does not offer placements
to couples.
Many of our best carers have not had previous experience
of caring for someone but they all have a few things
in common:
• Dedication
• Reliability
• Compassion
• Common sense
• A commitment to provide the highest standards
of care
• Willingness to put their client first
• Fitness and energy
• Adaptability
Your work can fit around your own lifestyle and personal
choices. A typical work pattern is 2, 3 or 4 weeks on
assignment, then a few days or a week off to return
to your home base or to travel and visit friends. As
a self-employed worker you will be paid directly by
the client or their representative and receive daily
instructions from them.
While on assignment you will probably work eight to
ten hours a day but, subject to any scheduled breaks
arranged between you and the client, you will always
be on hand during the client’s waking hours to
give assistance and companionship. Extra payment is
given if night calls are expected.
The job offers great flexibility and benefits but few
find the work effortless. A conversation with one of
our consultants will answer any questions you have about
the work or your potential suitability.
