Becoming a Consultus Live-in Carer or Nurse
- Your Interview

Before you can work for Consultus you must have an interview either at our head office near London or with our Cape Town consultant (registered nurses will be formally interviewed in England). Any work provisionally arranged in advance is dependent on a successful interview and other important pre-employment checks.

First contact us by email or telephone, interviews will only be confirmed following a telephone conversation.

We try to make the registration process as quick and easy as possible but in Healthcare protection of the vulnerable is of prime importance. Therefore, like any other reputable agency, we will do a number of checks before we register you, and it will be necessary for us to see a selection of the following, preferably at the time of your interview:

Mandatory

Proof of identity, such as a passport*, EU identity card or photographic driving licence*
Visa or other proof of right to work in the UK
Any valid driving licence (mandatory if you intend to chauffeur our clients)
Your work history and any relevant qualification certificates
National Insurance card (or evidence of your N.I. number on a recent payslip, etc) if you have one
Proof of your normal home address (bills, driving licence, etc), preferably your base address in the UK*
A passport-size photo (x2 for Nursing & Daily Care Department interviewees)
Arrival air ticket (only if you wish to drive in Britain and do not have a UK, EU or “International” driving licence)
Names and contact details of two referees including your last employer of not less than 3-months duration, preferably (mandatory for nurses) to include any healthcare employers.
Details of any past criminal convictions or cautions in the UK* or elsewhere

Other Documents

If you do not have another form of official identification we may need:

Birth certificate* (and marriage certificate or deed poll, etc, if you have changed your name)*

And, if applicable (except for self-employed live-in carers)

A recent health declaration (such a letter from your doctor)
Vaccination certificates
Training certificates, such as for Manual Handling, Management of Aggression and Food Hygiene

Trained nurses should bring:

Qualification certificates
NMC PREP folder
NMC pin

* If you have your interview in South Africa you will also need to bring these items to your CRB meeting at our head office.

Only original documents – not photocopies – are acceptable.

You will also need to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau/Protection of Vulnerable Adults check. If you have your interview in England this will be organised at this time. If you are interviewed in South Africa you will need to visit us in the UK to undertake this part of the recruitment process. Please bring cash or a cheque to cover the cost of this (currently £42.00). If you cannot bring your passport AND a photographic driving licence AND suitable proof of your current address (this can be an overseas address if you have just arrived in the UK) to your CRB meeting you should call our consultants beforehand for further advice.

Regrettably, the law no longer permits healthcare employers or agencies to accept previously obtained CRB disclosures, no matter how recent.

Please arrive for your interview at least a half hour early to give you time to complete an application form and CRB disclosure application. Please note that the UK office is closed between 1.00pm and 2.15pm and opening hours of our South African offices may be variable.

Reliability is of great importance to our clients, and punctual attendance for your interview is a sign of your dependability. If you arrange an interview that you later cannot attend please call us as soon as possible to cancel or rearrange it.
