Becoming a Consultus Nurse
Every week Consultus has hundreds of
live-in healthcare professionals on assignment in the
UK, earning good money and enjoying rewarding, stimulating
assignments. Live-in work gives you the chance to really
make a difference to the quality of a person’s
life. You work only when you want to and can travel
throughout England, Scotland and Wales meeting interesting
new people.

Our clients are mostly elderly and frail ladies and
gentlemen who need varying degrees of help with their
personal care, such as dressing, washing and bathing,
and with tasks such as housekeeping, cooking and shopping.
Some of our clients require the services of a qualified
nurse for post-operative convalescence, long-term nursing
or for palliative services.
As a live-in or ‘home’ nurse you will be
residing in your client’s home, typically for
two-week periods. At the end of your assignment you
can take as much time off as you like before moving
on to a new client.
Our nurses are of many ages and come from a wide range
of backgrounds; we welcome staff
from overseas who have excellent English and who
have secured the right to work in the UK. Of course,
to work as a nurse you must be registered with the UK
Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) though non-registered
nurses may still work for us as a live-in
carer. Regrettably, we cannot offer NMC adaptation
courses.
Our nurses may come from a wide range of backgrounds
but they all have a few things in common:
• Dedication
• Reliability
• Compassion
• Common sense
• A commitment to provide the highest standards
of care
• Willingness to put their client first
• Fitness and energy
• Adaptability, and
• Three years post-registration experience
Your work can fit around your own lifestyle
and personal choices. A typical work pattern is 2, 3
or 4 weeks on assignment, followed by few days or a
week off.Your time is then your own – you can
return home or travel and visit friends.
While on assignment you will probably work eight to
ten hours a day and (subject to any breaks agreed between
you and the client) always be at hand to give nursing
assistance. As well as nursing and personal care tasks,
you will offer companionship and help around the home.
The job offers great flexibility and benefits but few
find the work effortless. Our nursing managers will
be pleased to answer any questions you may have about
the work.
